I have bought a number of these sensitive, well written, child directed books for use in the military community I work in and with as a health professional. Not just for PTSD in childbirth, also relevant to other forms too.
I have suffered from PND and PTSD since the birth of my little girl Poppy. It has been a long hard struggle but I am certainly moving forward. I couldn't have made such progress without the support of my therapist, my loving husband and also a copy of this fantastic book. My therapist recommended this to my husband as he voiced his concern about how this could be affecting our wonderful daughter. After he spent a night reading it to her, the connection between us grew intensely. If I did have a bad day and she was around, she no longer got upset but suggested ways to help me out. There was one day i remember quite clearly when I snapped at her without realising. She stood up and replied "Mummy, I think you need a sizzling sausage break". I instantly calmed down, picked her up ad hugged tightly. Thank you so much for taking the time to help suffers like me explain this to our children in a way they understand. I recommend your book to everyone I speak to and look forward to reading anything else you create.
Thank you so much for writing this book. I recently bought a copy for my wife who has struggled with birth trauma and PND since the birth of our son 2 years ago.
She was always worried that it would affect him and their relationship but this book has given her confidence in her ability to explain how she feels to him as he gets older. 10/10!
Thank you so much! xx
Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank you so much! It's fantastic I think it helped me! Even though it is meant for my daughter Sometimes it feels as though I carry a backpack full of bricks with me. Then when someone understands and validates what I've felt/feel it's like I can visualise a couple of those bricks being pulled out and it makes it a little bit easier to stand up straight. Thank you Lindsey xx
This book is beautifully illustrated and simple in its concepts. Perfect for someone with PTSD or trauma as is describes feelings and provides visuals that help mum and child understand what is going on. A great focus on bodily reactions. A wonderful resource! Congratulations.
As a midwife, I have found this book has many uses. It can be used for a children of mother or father suffering PTSD, birth trauma or PND. It can be a conversation opener when you suspect someone might be struggling with similar issues but not know how to bring it up. It can be a good tool for fellow professionals who maybe unaware of the extent and impact of these important issues also
Thank you so much for writing this book. It is very much needed for children whose parents (specifically mothers) live with PTSD. This book is so well written and uses imagery perfectly tailored to young children. Great work.
I read this book to my little boy regularly. I feel it helps me to mend the hurt and guilt of my sometimes extreme emotions by helping to explain to my son what is happening. I still love him and it won't be forever. Although he is only three he seems to know now that these emotions are not his fault and sometimes he can feel like an emu too, sometimes daddy can feel like a owl, and sometimes even grandma can feel like a gold fish!
On another note, I sometimes just read it to myself and then know I am not alone. It still makes me laugh. Thank you Lindsey who has changed my life in more ways than one x
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
